Head-on collision on SR 70 near Myakka City leaves one dead

A 42-year-old Sarasota woman was killed Friday afternoon when her car crossed the center line at State Road 70 and Mizell Road near Myakka City and ran into an SUV.

The Florida Highway Patrol report said the accident occurred approximately 5:32 p.m. The 57-year-old Brunswick, Maine, woman driving the SUV suffered only minor injuries.

The FHP report said the Sarasota woman was driving west when she drove into the path of the east-bound SUV.

The Sarasota woman was pronounced dead on the scene.

FHP, which is investigating the crash, had no further information.
