Rob Tarbell's show "Smoke Screens" opened at Alfstad& Contemporary last night. Art fans crowded into the cozy Rosemary District gallery and absorbed dozens of Tarbell's trademark fire and smoke portraits. Created in his studio by applying intense heat and burning his image onto the canvas, Tarbell's work is reminiscent of 19th century war photography and daguerreotypes. The show runs until Dec. 4.
