BREAKING: Fatal accident closes Fruitville Road

One day after the accident that resulted in the death of three 21-year-old residents, another fatal accident has forced the closure of a major Sarasota County corridor.

Emergency personnel have closed all lanes of Fruitville Road from Tuttle Avenue to Beneva Road due to a four-vehicle crash this morning, according to Sarasota Police Department spokeswoman Genevieve Judge. The accident resulted in one fatality, and two individuals on trauma alert and another two people with unknown injuries at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The accident occurred when an SUV in eastbound lanes of Fruitville crossed the median and struck two oncoming vehicles before rolling over. Another vehicle swerved into a nearby tree to avoid the collision.

Officials are asking that motorists avoid the area.
