A project that Manatee County officials have vetted nearly two years is another step closer to fruition.

The Manatee County Public Works Department invites the public to celebrate the groundbreaking of major East County projects — Fort Hamer Bridge and the Fort Hamer and Upper Manatee River roads projects. The county is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony at 1:30 p.m. March 19, at Fort Hamer Park, 605 Fort Hamer Road, Parrish.

Local officials who played a role in the projects will comment on the start of the local improvements.

Fort Hamer Bridge will connect Upper Manatee River and Fort Hamer roads as a link between Parrish and East County, officials said.
