Manatee County and Medallion Home have reached a settlement in a 2-year-old lawsuit over transportation requirements for the controversial Long Bar Pointe project, in west Bradenton.
Commissioners signed off on the deal at their April 7 land-use meeting. Medallion owner Carlos Beruff and his business partner, Larry Lieberman, signed the agreement March 24.
Long Bar Pointe originally was slated to have a residences, a 250-room hotel, a conference center, a marina and boat basin, office and retail along the waterfront in Bradenton. Commissioners in 2013 nixed a proposed marina component.
Cargor Partners VIII/Long Bar Pointe LLLP filed a lawsuit against the county in 2013, disputing transportation requirements in a 2004 site plan for a portion of the project.
The settlement agreement states that development of the 463-acre Long Bar Pointe site will comply with the county’s current standards and practices; the county will hold a public hearing to consider amending the development order to remove transportation stipulations objected to by developers; and plaintiffs will no have to reimburse the county for the cost of construction of El Conquistador Parkway, among other provisions.
