Reality show fans can now get a new look inside what MTV is calling a “secret paradise.”
MTV posted a new teaser video to its YouTube account on July 26 to get viewers hyped for the July 31 premiere of its latest reality series “Siesta Key,” which was locally shot April-July.
The “docuseries” follows the seemingly glamorous lifestyles of seven young Siesta Key and nearby Sarasota residents ranging in age from 19-23.
In the sneak peak, 19-year-old cast member Juliette Porter introduces the other six characters in a dramatic voiceover in the style of Lauren Conrad, star of “The Hills,” another MTV reality show that followed the lives of wealthy young people in a coastal destination.
Porter begins by letting viewers know that “the island is small” but her “crew is tight,” and that while there’s a great deal of money on Siesta Key, there’s “even more drama.”
As she speaks, scenes from rowdy parties at her apparent beau Alex Kompothecras’ house — owned by Gary Kompothecras, the chiropractor most known for his legal and medical referral service 1-800-ASK-GARY — flash across the scene, accompanied by shots of a swimsuit modeling contest outside CaliFlorida Surf & Skate Shop.
Porter goes on to introduce her fellow cast members, beginning with Kompothecras. From the voiceovers and intermittent episode clips, we learn that Kompothecras and Porter are an item, but his high school sweetheart and fellow cast member Madisson Hausburg is a threat to their relationship.
We also learn that Kompothecras’ best friend, cast member Chloe Trautman, has her eyes set on Porter’s high school classmate, cast member Brandon Gomes. Porter calls Gomes “super chill but so hard to read.”
Rounding out the cast is former international supermodel Kelsey Owens, who just moved here eight months ago, followed by her boyfriend Garrett Miller, a personal trainer who Porter says “has never really been a part of our clique, but he does have abs for days.”
The video ends with a cautionary notice from Porter that “paradise is never what it seems,” which could serve as an interesting foreshadow for the Sarasota residents who have taken to social media to express their concerns about the show casting the island incorrectly as a party destination.
Those interested in how MTV will decide to portray the Key can tune in to the premiere on Monday, July 31 at 10 p.m. or attend the official viewing party at CineBistro in Westfield Siesta Key for $32.84.
