Phone it in
8:20 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Traffic Violation. A woman was pulled over for swerving in a Dodge pickup truck on Gulf of Mexico Drive. When police told her that her driver’s license was suspended for failure to pay a traffic fine, she explained that she had taken care of that ticket over the phone. She was issued another ticket and told to handle the issue at the courthouse.
Parking violation
8:26 p.m. — 500 block of Sloop Lane. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that a man stole her silver Mitsubishi sport utility vehicle that she allowed him to use for travel to and from her boat so he could work on it. The man, who had left for Louisiana, said he parked the vehicle behind a convenience store and left the keys in the center console. The woman called later on to report she found her vehicle in “crack town” with several items missing from it. She decline to fill out a criminal report.
Children left unattended
10:15 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police noticed three young children sitting in the back of a running car by themselves. Their parents were located in a convenience store and were issued a ticket for leaving the vehicle running with children in it unattended.
July 24
Tough love
2:09 a.m. — 6800 block of GMD. Disturbance. Police saw a woman sitting in a car late at night in a parking lot. She told police she got into a fight with her grown son and he had gotten out of the car to walk home to Bradenton Beach. She was giving him a head start to cool off before she picked him up.
July 25
Stolen items
9:54 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Battery and Lost Property. A drunken man became verbally and physically abusive with a resort employee when he couldn’t find his wife’s belongings on the beach. He was taken to jail to cool down. A short time later, a woman reported that after listening to a jazz festival, she noticed that someone stole her black purse that contained her car keys, $100 cash and several credit cards. The bandit also took off with her sandals.
July 26
All in the family
1:49 a.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police assisted Bradenton Beach police with a disturbance on Anna Maria Island. Police helped separate six people in the road, including a man and a woman who were wrestling and attempting to throw punches at one another. It was discovered that police broke up a fight during a family reunion, and the brother and sister who came to blows decided not to press charges.
Stolen purses recovered
4:49 p.m. — 500 block of De Narvaez Drive. Found Property. A man found two purses on the ground near his home and handed them over to police. Police helped return the purses to two Bradenton women who believe their purses were stolen on Anna Maria Island.
July 29
That blows
10:14 a.m. — 500 block of Ketch Lane. Disturbance. Police responded to a man who said that a landscape crew foreman gave him the finger while the crew jumped in their truck and left after the man told the crew to stop blowing leaves and trimmings onto his property. Police identified the foreman one block away and advised him to dispose of lawn debris in an appropriate manner.
Family night
9:01 p.m. — 700 block of Broadway. Domestic Violence. A man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery after he struck his father, who fell backward over a restaurant coffee table and hit his head on a coffee mug, which shattered and caused lacerations on his head. The suspect’s sister reported that their father had been trying to calm him down after he became agitated after a call from their mother. During transport and processing, the suspect laughed, cried, banged his head against walls, stood on a table, tried to escape from handcuffs and said, “I injured my father when he fell.”
