First-graders in Cris Edwards' class at McNeal Elementary School collected pet food and supplies for Honor Sanctuary in conjunction with their animal needs unit.

A total of 252 pounds of food was brought in schoolwide for the dogs and cats in the shelter. Lori Marinaccio, from the Honor Sanctuary, visited the first-grade classrooms to teach the students about animal care.

Students also learned about different careers that involve animal care and created a special presentation for their parents based on their research.
