Dozens of spectators enjoyed a week of world-class tennis during the $12,000 Gettel Nissan Tennis Series’ second event Dec. 12-13 at the Lakewood Ranch Athletic Center.
Seniors ages 65 to 78 participated in the two-day tennis tournament. King Van Nostrand and Fred Farzanegan won the first semifinal, defeating the former Canadian Davis Cup Team of Lorne Main and Bob Bedard 7-5 and 6-3.
The second semifinal featured a third set match tiebreaker in which Joe Bachmann and Ted Hoehn defeated Fred Drilling and Hank Rhawn 4-6, 7-5 and 12-10. On Dec. 13, Bachmann and Hoehn defeated the No. 1 seed team of Van Nostrand and Farzanegan 4-6, 6-2 and 10-6.
On Jan. 16-17, the Tennis Series third event will feature eight world-class women’s tennis players over the age of 21, including Sunitha Rao, Tiffany Dabek, Whitney Biles, Jackie Bohannon, Tigue Malisoff and Marina McCollom. Matches will begin at 9:30 a.m. both days at the Lakewood Ranch Athletic Center.
