Dec. 1
Family ties
1:12 p.m. — 500 block of Putting Green Lane. Larceny. A grandmother reported that her grandson, who has access to her home, took $5 and a credit card from her purse. The grandmother said she was going to cancel the credit card.

Later in the week, the grandson, whom his family wants to prosecute for the thefts, returned and stole his grandmother’s $800 television. The grandson’s father said he was stealing things to afford his drug habit.

Need a new sales pitch
3:32 p.m. — 6000 block of GMD. Soliciting. A man was told the town of Longboat Key prohibits door-to-door sales.

Dec. 2
Letter of apology
12:15 p.m. — 7000 block of Longboat Drive. Civil Disturbance. A woman reported that she gave a man $4,745 to perform some air-conditioning work at her home, and she was to pay the balance of $1,700 upon completion. But the man has not been back to finish the project for two weeks and wrote a letter to her explaining he had fallen on hard times and will either complete the work or pay her back when he can.

Condominium dispute
12:37 p.m. — 1000 block of Longboat Club Road. Disturbance. A man reported that he had a verbal spat with a maintenance worker who has keys to the condominium association’s building and performs work there. The man told police the association board intends to ask the management company not to allow the worker back on the property, for fear he will do damage to the man’s unit.

Suspicious soaking
6:34 p.m. — 500 block of Juan Anasco Drive. Property Damage. A man reported that he woke up to find his car had sustained severe interior water damage because the windows and sunroof were left open during a rainstorm. The man said he didn’t remember leaving the car open, and his wife denied it was her fault. The keys were not missing from the vehicle, and the man reluctantly took the damaged car to a car shop to get dried
out.

Dec. 6
Noise pollution
2:45 p.m. — 500 block of Broadway. Noise Disturbance. A tree-service man was issued a verbal warning for using a chainsaw on a Sunday morning, which violated the town’s noise ordinance.

Construction question
3:26 p.m. — 6400 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A Christ Church member reported to police that someone placed a sign on the church’s construction site that read: “WHY?” The church member told police members of the nearby homeowners association were disputing the church’s construction.

Which came first?
4:16 p.m. — 700 block of Broadway. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported that he closed the rear door to his van and the back window shattered. He believes the window may have been cracked with a BB gun used by a neighborhood teen.

Dec. 8
Necklace disappears
9:11 a.m. — 2500 block of GMD. Larceny. A woman reported that after locking her unit and leaving for the day with her husband, she returned to discover that her $500 18-karat, gold-braided necklace with hexagon pieces of jade was missing. Management said there was no record of anyone entering the couple’s room while they were gone.

Fist of fury
12:22 p.m. — 600 block of Jungle Queen Way. Reckless Driving. A man reported that someone driving a maintenance van was tailgating him while shaking his fists and using other hand gestures. Police couldn’t locate the suspect.
