June 19
Giving the slip
11:37 a.m. — 100 block of Longboat Club Road. Lost Property. A man called police from out of town to report his wife had lost a 2-carat diamond and white-gold ring valued at $16,500 at a Longboat Key condominium. He said his wife thinks the ring may have slipped off her finger.

June 20
Truck stop
12:02 a.m. — 100 block of GMD. Warrant. Police discovered a red pickup truck in Overlook Park after hours, and a check of the truck’s tag revealed there was a warrant out for the owner’s arrest. When police found the man, they asked him to move his truck and then took him to
jail.

Turn off the waterworks
7:11 a.m. — 4700 block of GMD. Public Service. Police discovered a water break at a local resort and called Public Works to shut the water off so repairs could be made.

Unlocked truck rifled through
10 a.m. — 1000 block of Bogey Lane. Vehicle Larceny. A man reported that someone rifled through his unlocked red-pickup truck’s glove box. Nothing appeared to be missing from the truck, but a set of fingerprints was lifted from the passenger door handle.

June 21
Crash into me
9:33 a.m. — Off the Key. Rescue. A motorboat and a sailboat crashed into each other in Sarasota Bay after both vessels — in an attempt to steer clear of each other — turned in the same direction. The owner of the sailboat, which suffered extensive damage, and his two grandchildren were transported to the hospital because of complaints of minor back pain. There was significant damage to the motorboat as well.

Police miscommunication
3:14 a.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police assisted Bradenton Beach police with a reported armed robbery at a convenience store. The robbery, however, was actually a domestic disturbance, and the police headed back to Longboat Key.

Getting grilled
8:45 p.m. — 3100 block of GMD. Disturbance. A manager of a resort called police to report that a guest became verbally abusive with him when he asked him not to barbecue under a tiki hut. Police spoke with the grill master, who told police the manager was verbally abusive with him. Both parties agreed to let bygones be bygones.

June 22
No longer in the driver’s seat
1:49 p.m. — 500 block of Putting Green Lane. Traffic Violation. A man who was pulled over for driving his truck without a valid driver’s license told police he has been in this country for 22 years, but his paperwork was incomplete. Hey, it was a nice ride while it lasted.

June 23
Anyone home?
10:29 a.m. — 7100 block of Longboat Drive North. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported a broken window and open door at a neighboring home. Police secured the home and contacted the real-estate agent.

Insurance policy
1:40 p.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road. A man reported that a metal pole protruding from a construction truck struck the trunk area of his rental car and left a scratch and trunk indentation that would cost $300 to fix. Hopefully, the man paid for rental insurance.

If you can’t say something nice ...
8:36 p.m. — 500 block of Ranger Lane. Disturbance. A man who has been having an ongoing property-line dispute with his neighbor called to report that she was violating the town’s noise ordinance by using a chainsaw. Both parties, who kept insulting each other, were advised to stay on their own property and stop talking to each other — permanently.

June 24
Fenced in
6:44 p.m. — 500 block of Halyard Lane. Vandalism. A man reported that an 8-foot section of his neighbor’s fence on the west side of his property had been removed. Somewhere, someone filled in an 8-foot section gap in his or her fence.

Snap, crackle … busted
11:20 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Public Service. A man told police that occupants of a car he had been following from St. Armands Circle threw items that hit his car. Police found the alleged car, and the driver explained that the occupants of her convertible threw “snap and pops” on the road near the bicycle lane. Police said that even though the children were having fun, they shouldn’t throw anything out of a moving car.
