‘911, what’s your emergency?’
5:06 a.m. — 3900 block of South Tamiami Trail. A 20-year-old man called 911 because a convenience-store clerk would not sell him cigarettes without an ID. The customer told the officer who responded that he thought police might be able to verify his age to the clerk. The officer informed the customer that was not a proper use of the 911 system.

June 8
Charged up and ready to go
8:06 a.m. — 1600 block of Ringling Boulevard. Suspicious Incident. A county employee noticed a man doing something on the side of the County Administration building. When she approached, he jumped on a bicycle and rode off, leaving behind a cell phone plugged into an outlet on the building. Police confiscated the phone.

Dog, the burglar hunter
3:51 p.m. — 6400 block of Colonial Drive. Residential Burglary. A cleaning woman arrived on the job and saw that her client’s dog was bleeding from its paw. She then noticed a back window had been broken, and the glass was on the floor. Deputies determined that the burglar may have been scared away, “because of the immense size of the dog.”

The Ed Hardy Fan Club
8:28 p.m. — 3500 block of South Tamiami Trail. Shoplifting. A department-store security guard noticed a man and woman placing several items of clothing into a bag and heading toward the exit. The guard confronted the pair, and the man told him: “We’re leaving the stuff and going.” The two walked out the door without the merchandise, jumped into a car and fled. Inside the bag were six pairs of Ed Hardy jeans, four Ed Hardy T-shirts and a Tapout T-shirt. Total value was more than
$1,050.
