10:30 a.m. — 4600 block of GMD. Vehicle Theft. A man reported that someone stole his 2007 Toyota, which contained a $1,000 African drum in the trunk.

Pump it up
12:07 p.m. — 6500 block of Gulfside Road. Larceny. A woman reported that someone stole a $5,000 pool heat pump from a rental property she manages.
On call
7:33 p.m. — Intersection of Penfield Street and General Harris Street. Suspicious Vehicle. Police responded to a report of a suspicious man knocking on the door of a vacant house. The man told police he was attempting to find the right address for a service call.
Breaking up is hard to do
8:30 p.m. —4000 block of GMD. Disturbance. Police witnessed a man and a woman yelling at each other from separate vehicles in a convenience store parking lot. The man told police he was trying to end a relationship with the woman, who was pleading with him to accompany her to pick up her children from her ex-husband’s home.

Supervised visit necessary
12:03 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Public Service. Police told a woman that she needed to agree to a time and date with her estranged husband to retrieve some belongings from their home. A police officer also needs to supervise the visit.
Dog evades rescue
4:32 a.m. — 6600 block of GMD. Animal Rescue. A newspaper courier reported an injured dog lying in the middle of Gulf of Mexico Drive. Police located a long-haired Springer spaniel in the middle of the road, which ran away when a police officer attempted to put the dog in his squad car and locate its owner. The dog appeared to have a stiff right-hind leg.
Loud noises
3:42 p.m. — 500 block of Linley Street. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that she heard a gunshot, which she believes was fired to silence peacocks that were being especially loud that evening. Police couldn’t find the peacock silencer.
Blood spots are a mystery
4:09 p.m. — 4500 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. The manager of a condominium complex showed police a large amount of blood that was on a resident’s vehicle and at various spots around the property. The cause of the bloodstains was unknown.

Sanctuary secured
2:52 a.m. — 6200 block of GMD. Security Check. Police secured the east door of a church. Nothing appeared to be disturbed inside the sanctuary.
Nov. 1
Raccoon seriously injures dog
3:25 p.m. — 500 block of Spanish Drive South. Animal Nuisance. A woman reported that her dog was attacked by a raccoon. She asked for help eradicating a family of raccoons that lives near her community.
Seize the moment
8:08 p.m. — 5900 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A stranded woman told police that she came to Longboat Key with a man who told her he would pay her to clean several condominium units in the area. But the man instead took her for a walk on the beach and asked her if she wanted a drink or to do some drugs with him. When she declined, he fled the scene.
You can’t run away from your problems
11:11 p.m. — 100 block of GMD. Trespassing. When police told two men they were trespassing in Overlook Park after hours, one of the men fled on foot. He was later found hiding in some bushes and was arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest. The man told police he ran away because he thought he would go to jail for a suspended driver’s license and a warrant that was issued for him in New Mexico.

Truck trumps streetlight
12:34 p.m. — 300 block of GMD. Property Damage. A truck driver told police that while trying to negotiate a tight corner at Longboat Club Road and Sands Point Road, the back end of the semi truck swung out and knocked a light pole off its base, shattering the glass globe at the top of the pole.
