+ Health care bill not the answer

Dear Editor:
I think most people agree that we need some type of healthcare reform to make it affordable and accessible to all Americans. Unfortunately, the recent $1.2 trillion, 2,000-plus-page bill the House of Representatives passed is not the answer. 

Congressman Vern Buchanan deserves thanks for his recent decision while standing on principals when casting his “no” vote. This is going to put a massive burden on all future generations because they will have to come up with the money to pay for it.

+ Candy drive a sweet success

Dear Editor:
The staff of Braden River Elementary School would like to give a tremendous thank you to everyone who contributed to our Give a Hoot, Donate Your Loot campaign. 

We would especially like to thank the young student who came with his mother — on his birthday — from Cortez Road all the way to our school to donate his candy. What a great gift he shared with the soldiers and children overseas on his special day! 

We also are delighted to thank the unnamed woman who saw our flier in the Chevron off State Road 70 and brought us a huge sack of her leftover Halloween goodies. 

Of course, we always thank our Braden River students and families for supporting our projects and sharing their enthusiasm as we seek to give a small treat to our soldiers who are serving our country and the children they are protecting.
