Sept. 22
Dock disappearance
3:23 p.m. — Jewfish Key. Lost or Missing Property. A woman reported that her three-seat red kayak was missing from her dock.

Sept. 24
Police monitor move
6:37 p.m. — 7100 block of Longboat Drive East. Disturbance. A woman asked for police assistance to get her belongings from her house. She was concerned that her husband, who had become increasingly more violent and broken one of her fingers recently, would give her problems. The husband did not object to her moving out.

Getting trashed
9:29 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Suspicious Circumstance. Police watched a man who parked his car in the fire lane outside a drug store nervously get outside of the car and throw some items in a trashcan. After police realized that two empty vodka bottles and some rolling papers were sitting on top of the trash, they asked for permission to search the vehicle. No other contraband was found and the man was sent on his way with a warning after confirming he had not been drinking today.

Sept. 25
Too much off the top
10:24 a.m. — 3700 block of GMD. Property Damage. Someone reported that a man driving a tree-trimming truck trimmed the southeast corner off of a condominium clubhouse building, causing $500 worth of damage to the gutter and wood on that side of the building.

11:01 a.m. — 1900 block of Harbourside Drive. Fraud. A man called to report that his wife received a letter from “I-Spy Mystery Shoppers” for $3,970. He wanted to know “if the check was any good.” Police told him it was a scam.

Sept. 28
Boat runs aground
10:15 a.m. — 3000 block of Fair Oaks Lane. Rescue. Police helped a man receive medical assistance after he cut his hand while trying to move his stranded boat off some grass flats. The boat was left disabled until the owner could remove it.

Sept. 29
Potential robbery thwarted
1:44 a.m. — 500 block of Chipping Lane. Suspicious Incident. Police watched a car without lights turn into a driveway in Country Club Shores and sit stationary for several minutes. When police approached the two men in the car, they acted nervous and could not explain why they were parked in a neighborhood in which they did not live. Both subjects were interviewed separately, and both were arrested for loitering and prowling. A butter knife was found under one of the car seats, and one of the subjects was listed as a violent felony offender who was on probation for aggravated battery.

Tennis Center work halted
5:38 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road. Code Enforcement. Construction workers at the Longboat Key Public Tennis Center were told they couldn’t work past 5 p.m., even if they were preparing for the next day’s construction activities.

Furniture fee
11:18 p.m. — Off the Key. Suspicious Circumstance. Police pulled over a man for an equipment violation and discovered a complete set of pool furniture in the bed of the truck. The driver said a friend had given him the furniture in exchange for doing some painting work at Twin Shores mobile-home park.

Disgruntled former employee causes a scene
3:17 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Civil Disturbance. Resort employees called to report a former employee causing a scene on resort property once he found out the person issuing final paychecks had already left for the day. When he was told his check would be mailed to him, he left without turning in his keys. Police talked to the man by phone and he explained that he “gave back all the property they deserve,” including the keys, T-shirts and a chainsaw.

No fires allowed
4:49 p.m. — 600 block of St. Judes Drive. Fire. Police responded to a report of an open fire, which had already been extinguished by residents before police arrived Residents were warned of the town’s ban on open burning.
