Mustangs fail to advance

The Lakewood Ranch High boys golf team saw its season come to an unexpected end in the Class 2A-District 14 Championship Oct. 19 at Kingsway Country Club in Lake Suzy.

The Mustangs shot a 319 to finish behind Sarasota (313), Riverview (315) and Venice (317). Lakewood finished two shots shy of qualifying as only the top three teams advance to Regionals.

Senior captain Rocky Khara advanced to Regionals after shooting a 76 for sixth place. Mitch Blanco shot an 80 followed by Connor Baldwin (81), Cole Medvetz (82) and Kyle Benson (88). 

The Lakewood boys and girls teams will play in the Annual Mustang Cup Oct. 22 at The River Club.
