Oct. 10
Fishing privileges revoked
9:30 p.m. — 100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Fishing. Police conducted fishing-license inspections in Overlook Park and only three people could not produce valid fishing licenses. The three men were informed about new fishing laws and sent on their way.

Oct. 11
A relative issue
7:58 a.m. — 6300 block of Gulfside Road. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman called to report people moving things out of her neighbor’s home while she was out of town. Police questioned the movers, who explained they were family members who were helping the homeowner move some of her personal items to another residence.

Oct. 13
Not in the driver’s seat
11:11 p.m. — 4000 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. A woman reported a female loitering in her car for a long period of time. Upon arrival, police found the car with no driver inside it.

Oct. 14
Tooling around
1:26 p.m. — 300 block of GMD. Larceny. The manager of the Islandside golf course reported that a tool crib had been inadvertently left open during the day, and two employees were found loitering around the tool crib that afternoon. The manager told police he would assess the inventory and fax a list of stolen tools to the police station.

Caller has hang-ups
2:36 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Harassing Phone Calls. A woman reported that over the last eight months, she has received about three one-ring phone calls a month during the night. The phone company advised her to file a police report.

Oct. 15
Words of wisdom
10:35 p.m. — 700 block of Gulf Bay Road. Domestic Disturbance. A man called to report a loud verbal spat between a mother and son. The mother told police that “several choice words” were exchanged because her intoxicated son was threatening to drive into Sarasota. The son agreed to stay on the island and sleep at a friend’s house.

Oct. 17
Everything is not illuminated
3:19 a.m. — 300 block of GMD. Warrants. Police observed a woman driving a car with no headlights on pull into a gated condominium complex. When she only produced an identification car, the officer asked her why her driver’s license was suspended. She said the license was suspended for driving under the influence of alcohol. But police discovered she was also violating probation in Orange County, and she was taken to jail.

Oct. 19
Water logged
1:21 a.m. — 600 block of Russell Street. Abandoned 911 Call. Police responded to a 911 hang-up and spoke with a woman and her live-in boyfriend, who explained they were in the shower when they supposedly made the 911 call. Police discovered a problem with the phone jack at the home.

In hot water
8:31 a.m. — 5100 block of GMD. Fire. Longboat Key Fire Rescue determined that a hot-water heater had shorted out, which caused smoke in the house.

Ask for directions
11:54 a.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Vehicle Larceny. A man reported that someone entered his unlocked rental car and stole a $200 GPS system.

Scams reported
3:26 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Fraud. A man reported that his wife received a letter from Reader’s Digest, which stated she had won $1 million in a Pepsi contest. His wife also received a check to cover $5,100.75 in expenses to a funeral home with which she had never had any contact.

Parking violators sent packing
8:58 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Suspicious Vehicle. Two men were issued written warnings for parking in a marked no-parking zone and not carrying a fishing license.

Oct. 20
Shadow man
5:20 a.m. — 400 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Police saw a man in dark clothes wearing a backpack standing in the shadows at a local gas station. The subject could not be located.

Out of gas
10 a.m. — 4500 block of GMD. Larceny. A man told police that sometime between April 2009 and Oct. 15 someone stole approximately 80 gallons of fuel from his boat’s fuel tank while he was out of town.

Suspect leaves telling clues
11:49 p.m. — 4400 block of Exeter Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that she was awakened to the sound of breaking glass and discovered that one of her sliding glass doors on her porch had shattered. Police checked the exterior of her home and discovered several white feathers directly below the broken window. The bird’s body was not recovered.

Oct. 21
Burglar couldn’t break window
7:12 a.m. — 600 block of Sutton Place. Property Damage. A woman reported that someone attempted to break into her Mercedes Benz by striking the driver’s side window several times with a large rock. The window remained intact and suffered several deep scratches instead.

Easy access
9:49 a.m. — 5200 block of GMD. Vehicle Larceny. A man reported that someone broke into his unlocked Ford Explorer and stole $145 in cash, credit cards, a cigar humidifier and 15 cigars valued at $200. The man also told police that some of his golf clubs could have been stolen.
