Aug. 28
No dumping allowed
10:50 a.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane. Code Enforcement. A woman reported that someone left three large piles of tree branches and brush on a vacant property that was under her care. Police promised to investigate who was using the property as a dumping ground.

Coach and carry
3:23 p.m. — 3400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Vehicle Burglary. A woman reported that someone smashed the passenger-side window of her car while she was at the beach and stole her Coach purse. The woman’s bank credit card, driver’s license and $300 in cash were stolen.

Aug. 29
Campers seek refuge elsewhere
12:08 p.m. — 4200 block of GMD. Camping Violation. Police found two men camping behind St. Mary, Star of the Sea, Catholic Church. Once police realized they were not interrupting a religious experience, they told the men they couldn’t camp on the church grounds. The men, who were bicycling to Tallahassee, took off on their bikes in search of a campsite on Anna Maria Island.

Aug. 30
No lights equal no bikes
2:59 a.m. — 3400 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Police stopped two men who were riding their bicycles in the middle of the night with no lights on the bikes. After confirming the men were staying at a hotel on the island, police told the men to use the sidewalk to ride back to their hotel due to the late hour.

License plate recovered
8:26 a.m. — 4000 block of GMD. Found Property. Someone turned in a Florida license plate that they found on the side of the road. Police left a message for the owner of the plate, which was assigned to a trailer.

Beach bummer
9:05 a.m. — 500 block of Spinnaker Lane. Lost Property. A man told police that he lost his wallet on the beach, which contained $400 in cash, his driver’s license and several credit cards. He was advised to cancel the credit cards.

Property dispute
12:29 p.m. — 2700 block of GMD. Civil Disturbance. A woman called police to report that her ex-husband’s new wife was removing items from their beach condominium that belonged to her. Police stopped the new wife from taking any more items from the condominium, then advised the ex-wife that the matter was a civil dispute.

No forced entry
1:08 p.m. — 500 block of Yawl Lane. Lot Property. A woman told police that someone stole a $300 GPS navigation system, a $179 iPod and three car chargers from her sport utility vehicle. The woman thought she locked her vehicle, but there was no forced entry.

Aug. 31
Business brawl
5:31 p.m. — 5400 block of GMD. Disturbance. A man reported that while he was swimming near Overlook Park, a man who is a disgruntled customer of his father’s business recognized him and began throwing punches at him before the fight was broken up.

The party’s over
10:25 p.m. — 2400 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Police discovered a woman walking on the shoulder of Gulf of Mexico Drive. She told police she is a dancer at The Paper Moon and was asked to party with a regular customer at his home on Longboat Key. After the party, the man refused to give her a ride home to Bradenton.

Sept. 2
Fishy circumstance
3:15 a.m. — Off the Key. Suspicious Person. A Bradenton man told police that he got into an argument with another man over a coveted fishing spot. The other man had left the scene and no further action was taken.
