Former mayors take matter into their own hands

APRIL FOOLS — A group of former Sarasota mayors engaged in a headstand contest March 27, at the Sarasota High School gymnasium, to compete to see who would become the next mayor.

Thinking his wetsuit from his recent Google shark-dive expedition at Mote Marine would distribute his weight evenly and allow him to stay in the perfect headstand position, Mayor Dick Clapp thought winning was a sure thing. But former Mayor Lou Ann Palmer put everyone else to shame and held her headstand for two days, 17 hours and 47 minutes.
