Mike Love, of The Beach Boys, hitched a ride in Project Green Machine, Sarasota’s first retrofitted electric car, before his concert Tuesday, April 6, at the Van Wezel.

The electric car was built in a coordinated effort led by Forrest Shaw, owner of Pastry Art, and the HuB, lead by engineer Pete Hansen. The project has been documented on the Web site www.projectgreenmachine.com. Pastry Art plans to use the converted 1969 Volkswagen Squareback to make deliveries.
