March 26
Registration mix-up
3:54 p.m. — 3300 block of Bayou Sound. Assist other agency. A man reported that a boat he had recently sold had been sighted off the coast of Haiti. The man provided a purchase-of-the-sale contract, but it was discovered the boat was still in his name. Police told the man law required the new buyer to change the title within 30 days of the boat sale.

Screen stealer
4:07 p.m. — 3600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Larceny. A woman reported that someone stole the two screens from her front windows. She believes another condominium owner is targeting her.

Party problems.
4:34 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Code Enforcement. A man reported that three men were on Beer Can Island "partying." Police found the underage suspects in a self-made lean-to with several empty beer cans nearby. The spring breakers were cooperative, and the remaining beer was emptied.

Gone to the dogs
4:55 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Code Enforcement. A man was warned that a town ordinance prohibited him from letting his puppy run loose on Beer Can Island. Three minutes later, another man was also told his two dogs couldn’t run loose on the beach.

March 27
Overnight guests
7:41 a.m. — 6900 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. Police noticed an RV sitting in the former Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce parking lot. The man told police he and his family were visiting from Arizona and spent the night in the parking lot. They were warned they can’t camp on Longboat Key and were sent on their way.

Track it down
10:03 a.m. — 4700 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. Police noticed fresh tire tracks in the beach near the Atlas Street beach access that led right up to the Gulf of Mexico. The tracks appeared to be from several different trucks.

Bad parking job
1:19 p.m. — 200 block of Sands Point Road. Property Damage. A man told police that his van knocked a sprinkler and a water line loose when he attempted to pull into a parking space at the Inn on the Beach.

When push comes to shove
4:47 p.m. — 1200 block of GMD. Assault. A condominium concierge and a real-estate broker told police that a Water Club resident became upset when the broker parked his truck in the roundabout near the lobby. The resident, both men said, pushed the real-estate broker twice after he didn’t respond to the resident’s request to move the truck. The pushes caused the broker to fall over a potted plant, and the resident kicked the broker twice once he was on the ground. The resident, however, told police that the broker tripped over the potted plant and that he did not push him. Police said they have probable cause a battery occurred and filed an affidavit with the State Attorney’s Office.

March 29
Theft thwarted?
9:47 a.m. — 10 block of Winslow Place. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that when she opened her aunt’s garage door that morning, two Hispanic men ran from two motorcycles that were left in the driveway overnight and were covered by a tarp. The suspects fled in a silver Dodge pickup truck. The motorcycles were not damaged.

March 30
Dogs reprimanded
10:11 a.m. — 3500 block of Bayou Circle. Animal Nuisance. Police responded to a complaint of a barking dog and found two dogs barking in a pool area. The homeowner returned home while police were still there and explained he had forgotten to put the electronic dog collars on them that prevent them from barking.  

Boat runs ashore
10:13 a.m. — 400 block of L’Ambiance Drive. Abandoned Boat. A 12-foot fiberglass boat was found abandoned on the beach behind L’Ambiance. The owner was contacted, and it was discovered the boat, which was being towed by the owner’s son, had broken free during a storm. The damaged boat was stored until its owner could retrieve it.

Sign-in problems
12:44 p.m. — 2800 Harbourside Drive. Civil Disturbance. The manager of the Longboat Key Club Moorings told police that a former marina employee, who was now working independently on several boats at the marina, was not complying with the marina’s regulations and refused to sign the login sheet. Police talked to the former employee and asked him to comply with the marina’s regulations. He agreed to do so.

Mysterious disappearance
9:34 p.m. — 600 block of Jessmyth Drive. Lost Property. A woman reported that someone stole a $250 brown wicker chair and cushion from her pool deck. She was unsure if it was stolen or had blown into the water behind her
deck.

Raccoon picks the wrong box
8:06 p.m. — 600 block of Yardarm Lane. Animal Nuisance. A woman told police that a raccoon had gotten into some rat poison located in a black box near her garage and was listless in her backyard. Police discovered the raccoon in distress and euthanized it.
