Primrose kids collect for 'precious pets'

For the past month, about 150 Primrose School preschoolers have been learning about precious pets and what it takes to help them.

Their Precious Pets program culminated with a donation of more than 300 canned and dried pet food items and supplies to Honor Sanctuary, a local no-kill animal rescue organization.

"At Primrose Schools, our Precious Pets program provides an opportunity for children to experience the special value of helping others, including animals," said Sharon Frank, Primrose School at Lakewood Ranch Town Center. "Through hosting the annual pet food and supply drive, we're not only able to teach them the importance of lending a helping hand, but we’re showing them how they can make a difference."

Each classroom at Primrose School "virtually" adopted a dog or cat from the Honor Sanctuary's website. Every day the children would learn different things about their classroom pet such as, pet safety, nutrition, grooming and exercise. While the children were busy learning, Primrose School was collecting donations from the parents for pet food and supplies.

On July 29, Honor Sanctuary visited the school along with Barney, a dog who is currently up for adoption.

The Primrose Summer Campers actually loaded all of the food and supplies into the van to help the animals.

Precious Pets and other character-building programs are all part of Primrose Schools' Balanced Learning curriculum, which uniquely blends character development, academics and play for children.
