A summer of weekly bridge lessons and a fun-filled five-day bridge camp culminated with the Youth For Bridge tournament and graduation ceremony Friday, Aug. 6, at the Boys and Girls Club.

Initiated by the American Contract Bridge League, the program has been well received in schools nationwide for developing critical thinking, math and social skills, in addition to improving memory and concentration.

Trophies were awarded to winners Paige Levanti and Mitchell Ward and Logan Robbins, and all 30 youngsters received a certificate of completion and a T-shirt. The event winded down with a Papa John’s pizza party.

Hudson Zaccagnino
What makes bridge fun?
“Just to come here and play. You get silly bands, gift cards to McDonald’s. If you know the basics, it’s not that hard.”

Paige Levanti
What did you learn?
“I got to learn how to play new card games. Bridge Bingo is my favorite — it uses 13 cards instead of chips, and there are four people playing.

Ethan Solorzano
What’s the best part of learning bridge?
“It’s just fun. You can have a good time with your friends and if you do well, a good day.”

Jasmine Rosa
What was your first experience like?
“It is really easy to learn. Kids are really starting to get into bridge, going back to their families and friends and teaching them how to play.
