Truck verified
10:42 p.m. — 700 block of Spanish Drive North. Suspicious Vehicle. A man called to report a suspicious truck parked next to a community swimming pool. Police verified the truck was parked in a visitor parking spot and its owner was visiting his father.

July 27
Smear tactics
9:10 a.m. — 300 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman reported that someone placed what appeared to be feces on her garage window. She told police that she has no enemies of which she is aware.

Beer Can castaway
6:14 p.m. — 6800 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Someone reported a man holding what appeared to be a knife and a machete walking near Whitney Beach Plaza. Police secured the man’s weapons. He told them he was living on Beer Can Island. When police told the man it was illegal for him to live there, he became upset and told them he was living on “God’s Island” and he only listens “to the law of God.” The man refused a ride to a homeless shelter and told police he would, however, accept a ride to a Holiday Inn and police could foot the tab. The conversation became heated, and he was sprayed with pepper spray after attempting to charge an officer to gain access to his machete. He was arrested for disorderly conduct. Police discovered 37 grams of marijuana seed on Beer Can Island along with his belongings.

July 28
Shirtless suspect
2:47 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Warrants. Police observed two men loading equipment into a truck near a dumpster behind a drug store. Police noticed that one of the men took off his shirt and disappeared after seeing police. An employee of an Italian restaurant told police the two men were hired to move some equipment for the restaurant’s owner. Police found the man who fled and arrested him after discovering he had two warrants out for his arrest.

Bank fraud
4:36 p.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane. Fraud. A man told police he gave away his pin number and other security information to a caller he thought was from Bank of America. The man closed his account after learning the bank does not call customers for that information.

It’s smokin’
8:49 p.m. — 3800 block of GMD. Fire. The Fire Rescue Department stood by to keep an eye on smoking wires until Florida Power & Light arrived.

July 29
Lost time
4:40 p.m. — 5500 block of GMD. Lost Property. A woman reported that her $5,500 Rolex ladies watch was missing from the counter she had placed it on earlier in the day. The watch had not been found after four days of searching.

Fishy circumstances
8:03 p.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane. Suspicious Person. A neighbor called to report people fishing on private property. Police found three men fishing behind a home and one of the men told police he services the home’s pool, but didn’t have permission to be there.

July 30
Suspicious visitor
2:19 p.m. — 600 block of Buttonwood Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. A real-estate-agent reported that he saw a black pickup truck in the driveway of one of the homes he has listed. The garage door of the home was also open. The homeowners had no idea who was at their house and nothing appeared missing.

July 31
The pole won
11:54 a.m. — 4300 block of GMD. Property Damage. A man told police he hit a concrete support pillar in a condominium parking lot while trying to move his car to load up his family’s luggage. The damage included $50 for the pillar and $500 for the car.

No fires allowed
11:43 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Code Enforcement. Four men were told they could not start a fire on Beer Can Island.

Beach dispute
3:43 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD. Disturbance. A property manager for a resort told police that the property manager of a nearby condominium, who picked up a guest’s belongings and placed it in front of the resort’s beach, verbally harassed one of her guests.

Aug. 1
You’re welcome …
10:37 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Suspicious Circumstance. A man reported that he saw a woman use a drive-thru ATM machine and promptly throw the debit card out the window after she completed her transaction. The man picked up the card and asked the woman why she would do that. She began screaming obscenities at him before snatching the card and driving away.
