CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: Lakewood Ranch

Canadian playwright Lindsay Price visited Lakewood Ranch High School this week, holding playwriting workshops with theater students and working with actors in her play “Somewhere, Nowhere,” which debuts at 7 p.m. tonight.

The East County Observer caught up with cast members of “Somewhere, Nowhere,” who have spent extra time with Price, about their experience.

When did you first meet Lindsay Price?
When we first cast (for "Somewhere, Nowhere"), she came in to listen to the read-through. Her plane landed (this Tuesday). She saw our dress rehearsal.

What is it like to work with the writer of the play you are performing?
It’s really a privilege. Most people don’t’ get to have to talk with the playwright.

What tips did Lindsay Price give you?
We can have the best characters and the cool costumes, but if you don’t have your lines down, there’s no show.

What is it like to have the person who wrote the play you are performing in the audience?
It’s a lot more nerve-wracking. You can hear her pen scratching notes. We all want to impress the audience and give them a good show. We want to impress her, too.

What is the benefit of working with the playwright?
It allows you to get more in depth with the script and understand connotations, even hidden stories in the script.

What do you like most about the play “Somewhere, Nowhere?"
I like the way (Price) writes. It’s so easy to get into.
