Lakewood Ranch High School JV wrestler Jacob Soles pinned all four of his opponents to go undefeated at the Marauder Duals Dec. 4, earning him the title of the Mustangs’ Most Outstanding Wrestler. The 119-pound freshman followed up his performance with three wins at the JV Tiger Duals Dec. 6. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

Why did you decide to join the wrestling team?
I thought it would give me something to do after football. I couldn’t play too much because I got hurt, so I decided to come to wrestling.

What do you enjoy the most about wrestling?
It can get you in great shape. I hadn’t run in a long time, and I (came here) and started running again, and it wasn’t so bad. Wrestling gets you in better shape.

Because you wrestle in a smaller weight class, what one attribute do you use to your advantage?
When I go for a takedown, I try to sprawl up their neck and lock on. Then, I can get them in a headlock. Every time, I’ve been successful so far.

Do you like football or wrestling more?
Wrestling is definitely more challenging, and I’ve had more time wrestling. So I would say wrestling right now.

Do you have any siblings?
I have a sister, Alura, who is a junior.

What’s your favorite subject?
History. I like learning about our history as Americans. Although I like learning about not just what’s happened in America but worldwide.

Do you have a favorite type of music?
Rock. I like Lincoln Park.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Speed. I could get anywhere whenever I want to like the Flash from Justice.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
“Looney Tunes.”
