Cops Corner 12.16.10

The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

LAKEWOOD RANCH
Dec. 7
 11 a.m. — 7200 block of Spoonflower Court. Burglary. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s residence through an open rear sliding door. The person(s) took several items and exited through the sliding doors. The person(s) then fled in an unknown direction by unknown means. The value of the stolen items is about $17,695. The scene was processed, and seven print cards were obtained. The victim was given a case number and a victim’s rights pamphlet.

Dec. 8
 12:30 a.m. — Intersection of Ranch Lake Boulevard and Linger Lodge Road. Grand theft. While on routine patrol, the responding deputy observed a white Ford F150 parked in an unlit area. Upon further investigation, the deputy observed spools of wire bundled up in piles to the right of the truck and in front of the truck. Two white male suspects were found in the wood line near the truck and arrested at the scene.

MYAKKA CITY
Dec. 7
 6:15 p.m. — 36255 S.R. 70 E. (Miller’s General Store). Retail theft. The suspect entered the store and was observed on surveillance video concealing a package of ice cream in his jacket and then exiting the store without paying for the item. The suspect then returned to the store and the complainant confronted him. The suspect denied stealing the ice cream. He then left the store in a gold or tan Toyota car, traveling eastbound on State Road 70. Law enforcement viewed the video and positively identified the suspect. The complainant was unable to make a copy of the video at the time of the incident but was instructed not to delete the video. The suspect was arrested at his residence without incident.

SARASOTA
Dec. 8
 12:30 p.m. — 2875 University Parkway (Publix). Counterfeit currency. The suspect paid for his items with three $20 bills, one of which was checked by the cashier and was counterfeit. The suspect then paid for his items with another authentic bill. He told the complainant that he did not know the bill was counterfeit. The suspect remained on scene until the responding deputy arrived. He told law enforcement that he must have gotten the bill from the Wachovia Bank when he withdrew cash and had no idea it was not an actual bill. He also stated he didn’t closely inspect it. The bill was the proper size and color, but it didn’t have the proper watermark or security strip. The responding deputy took possession of the bill, and it was placed into property and evidence.

OTHER
Dec. 7
 2 p.m. — 8415 Lockwood Ridge Road (Albertsons). Burglary to a conveyance. Unknown person(s) broke the passenger window and peeled it off of the doorframe. The person(s) then removed a Garmin GPS unit, which was mounted on the windshield.

3:30 p.m. — 660 67th St. Circle E. (Motel 6). Burglary to a dwelling. The complainant reported that while she was out of her motel room, an unknown person(s) entered by unknown means and stole $802 in property. There were not witnesses to this incident, and according to the complainant, no one had been with her in the room and she had not had any company since checking in three days earlier. She was issued a victim’s brochure and a case number for future reference.
