Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine medical and pharmacy students transitioning into clinical study received their white coats during symbolic ceremonies Jan. 30 at Harvest United Methodist Church in Lakewood Ranch.

The white coat serves as a symbol of the trust between doctor and patient, of compassion and of the purity of the medical professional’s purpose.

Coats were received by 116 members of the School of Pharmacy’s Class of 2013 during a morning ceremony, and 156 first-year medical students also received their coats later that afternoon.
