What’s the deal?
1:39 a.m. — 500 block of Schooner Lane. Narcotics Violation. Police pulled over a car that backed into the driveway of an unoccupied home. They arrested the two occupants, because they tried to leave the scene before police blocked them with a patrol car. Once the car was searched, police found a small amount of marijuana on one of the men and nine bags of marijuana, two oxycodone pills and drug paraphernalia in the car. The men told police they were just there to survey a fishing spot, but later admitted to selling drugs “for extra money to live.” They were transported to Sarasota County Jail.
Not enough room
11:37 a.m. — 600 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Property Damage. A man reported that a truck driver hit a barrier pole while exiting through a guard shack and caused $300 worth of damage to the shack and keypad-access pole.

Collect your cane
7:48 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Found Property. A grocery-store employee turned an aluminum adjustable cane with a sponge rubber handle over to police that was found in the store.

Not a bright idea
11:05 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Trespassing. A man who attempted to steal a pair of sunglasses inside a grocery store was issued a trespass warning.
Good Samaritan hands over cash
1:54 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Found Property. A grocery store employee turned in $100 in cash she found inside the store.
Late for a very important date
9:56 p.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Suspicious Person. Police found a man sleeping on the wheelchair ramp at the former Mattison’s restaurant and woke him up. He told police he came to Longboat Key because he had an appointment to meet tennis player Maria Sharapova and had shown up late. He told police he was waiting for the town’s library to open so he could send her an e-mail to apologize and reschedule. He was given a ride to the south side of New Pass Bridge, at his request, after being told the library would not be open in the morning.

Speeder arrested
11:48 a.m. — 2000 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. A man was pulled over for driving 53 miles per hour in a 35 mph construction zone and arrested for driving without a valid driver’s license.

It’s raining vacuums
10:14 p.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police assisted Bradenton Beach Police with a domestic disturbance call and found a broken wooden table and a vacuum cleaner lying in the driveway. The wife told police she got mad that her husband had been out with a friend and threw the items in the driveway from a second-story balcony. No physical contact had occurred, and police left the scene while keeping an eye on the balcony for flying objects.

Yacht runs aground
8:22 a.m. — Off the Key. Boat. The captain of a yacht called the Longboat Pass bridge tender to report that he ran the yacht aground while attempting to come into the pass and the yacht was taking on water. The Coast Guard picked up seven passengers on board, and the yacht was towed at high tide the next morning.
Homeless woman offered a ride
6:52 p.m. — 1600 block of GMD. Trespassing. A homeless woman who had been sleeping on the beach was given a ride to a shelter in Sarasota.

Beach-goers issued trespass warnings
2:15 p.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Trespassing. Two women were issued trespass warnings for being at the closed North Shore Road beach access. Their tag was confiscated because it was expired.
