Unfortunate breakdown
10:32 a.m. — 10 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive. (GMD). Traffic Violation. Police arrested a woman whose car broke down on the side of the road after discovering her tag was expired and she was driving with a suspended driver’s license.
Improper licensing
5:31 p.m. — Off the Key. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a man pulling a trailer because the tag wasn’t located in the correct place. The driver was issued tickets for not having the appropriate license to pull the equipment he had. He was also given a warning for spilling the contents of his truck on the road.
Jan. 29
All bottled up
12:35 a.m. — 6800 block of GMD. Security Check. Police discovered a liquor store was unlocked and were able to secure the doors after making sure no liquor was stolen.
Bush gets hosed
9:28 a.m. — 600 block of GMD. Property Damage. A woman told police that she had to dodge an errant vehicle by running off the road and destroying an oleander bush with her Jeep.
Oil toil
6:24 p.m. — 2800 block of Harbourside Drive. Fuel Spill. Police were on scene while the fire department and the Coast Guard worked to contain a diesel fuel that had spread throughout Longboat Key Moorings Marina.
Security check causes alarm
11:56 p.m. — 400 block of GMD. Security Check. Police discovered the back door of a gas station was unlocked and tripped the alarm when they opened the door. The owner came to reset the alarm and secure his
business.

Always of assistance
11:39 p.m. — 10 block of GMD. Assist Other Agency. On the way back from Lido Key, police assisted a Sarasota police officer conducting a field sobriety test on a drunk driver.

Fruits of their labor
8:52 a.m. — 5100 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A woman told police that during the past week, someone picked about 100 oranges and grapefruits from fruit trees on her property.
Feb. 1
Longtime loss
11:22 a.m. — 6700 block of GMD. Missing Property. A woman called to report she lost an $800 necklace, a $400 ring, $100 cat-shaped pin and a $100 necklace 15 months ago. The woman told police she waited to file a police report until she was sure the missing jewelry wasn’t at her Michigan home.
Apology accepted
12:52 p.m. — Intersection of DeNarvaez Drive and Gulf of Mexico Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. Two male skateboarders told police they believed a man driving a sport utility vehicle intentionally swerved toward them, forcing them off the road, before he made a turn onto DeNarvaez Drive. Police located the driver, who told police he meant no harm and didn’t see the skateboarders until it was too late. He apologized to the skateboarders.

Early bird seems suspicious
1:19 a.m. — 6000 block of GMD. Suspicious Person. Police found a man looking at boats at Cannons Marina in the middle of the night. The man, who had a criminal record, agreed to a search of his truck, but nothing suspicious was found except some prescription medication that was prescribed to him.
