We asked elementary-school students from Bay Haven School of Basics Plus and Ashton Elementary to tell us their favorite Valentine’s Day activities and divulge their favorite holiday treats.

What’s your favorite Valentine’s Day candy?
Rock Star sweethearts.

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
We get together and share. My parents buy a secret present for me — last year I got a bear that sings with singing cupcakes.

How did Valentine’s Day become a holiday?
I think one of the presidents made it up.

You celebrate Valentine’s Day because you show how much you love your family or your best friend.

It started because people started to like each other.

To show love and friendship.

How do you celebrate this holiday?
By loving people and stuff. I make my teacher a card.

A romantic holiday for the whole family to give gifts and chocolate.

Every chocolate known to man — even England chocolate.

Did you make Valentine’s Day cards for your class?
Yes, it took me three whole hours because I fell asleep.

How do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
I eat a lot of chocolates. Mostly, I steal my mom’s chocolates. Every year, my dad sets this huge box of chocolates on the table with flowers and I grab the chocolates and run!

Why do we have this holiday?
To celebrate and spend time with each other and to give flowers.

How did Valentine’s Day become a holiday?
A weird hobo made it up.
