Through its “Hope for Haiti” campaign, the Manatee County Public School District has raised nearly $37,000 for relief efforts in Haiti.

During a school board meeting last night, Superintendent Tim McGonegal presented a check to Tracy Vanerneck, financial development director for the Manatee County Red Cross chapter.

Schools and support sites across the county came up with fundraising efforts such as car washes, walk-a-thons and collections of change to help with the effort.

“People across our district coming together to help victims of this tragic earthquake is a great example of global outreach, which is one of our key EdVantage strategic objectives,” McGonegal said. “The way in which our students, employees and parents responded to this call for help shows how our strategic objectives are becoming a real part of our students’ lives.”
