The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.
Braden River High freshman Courtney Mirabella went 7-for-13 at the plate this week with a pair of doubles, two stolen bases, two RBIs and three runs scored, helping lead the Lady Pirates to a 4-2 record. Mirabella also pitched three complete games, allowing seven runs on 15 hits while striking out 22 and walking 11.
Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.
Do you prefer pitching or playing shortstop?
Pitching because I like to have the mode of the game. I like to be in charge.
What was the biggest adjustment you had to make to playing varsity softball at Braden River?
Hustling. My travel team wasn’t very strict, but (here) we have to hustle a lot more.
What’s your favorite movie?
“Batman the Dark Knight.” I’m a Batman fanatic. He’s so cool. He doesn’t even need super powers.
What’s your favorite subject?
Math because there’s always one right answer.
If you could go anywhere on vacation where would you want to go and why?
New York City. It’s all fast-paced.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to work with psychology and be a profiler like on the show “Criminal Minds.”
What’s your favorite food?
Spaghetti.
Do you have any siblings?
I have an older sister, Heather, who is a freshman in college.
What do you like to do when you aren’t playing softball?
I like to go to the movies and to the beach a lot.
Do you have any pets?
I have two cats: Huey and Little Kitty
