More than 150 seniors from around the world gathered at The Meadows Country Club in Sarasota for the Meadows Super Senior Grand Prix Tennis Tournament Feb. 15-20.
The tournament, sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association and the International Tennis Federation, was the sixth stop on the Florida Grand Prix Senior Circuit, drawing 170 players to compete in men’s singles and doubles matches.
Top players from around the world included: Clem Hopp, ranked No. 1 in the world in men’s 80 singles, Joe Bachmann, ranked No. 1 in the United States in men’s 70 singles, and Larry Turville, formerly ranked No. 2 in the world in men’s 55 singles.
Players competed in 13 different age divisions for prize money. This year’s 55 doubles champion was The Meadows Country Club’s own tennis professional Jon Shaw. Other champions and finalists include:
