Athlete of the Week: Sam Severson

The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

Sam Severson scored two goals Dec. 18, leading Lakewood Ranch to a 3-0 victory over Southeast. The senior midfielder leads the Mustangs in goals so far this season with 11. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week:

What is your fondest soccer memory?
Winning districts last year. It was just exciting because we worked really hard and accomplished our goal.

How did you get into playing soccer?

I’ve been playing for 13 or 14 years. It started out as just something to do as a little kid, and it just grew from there.

What are your plans for next year?

I’m looking to go to the University of Central Florida, not necessarily for soccer, but it could change. I’m just not really sure yet.

What’s it like playing soccer with your younger brother, Jake?

It’s pretty interesting. This is the first year I’ve ever played with him, and it’s been pretty fun actually.

What is your favorite subject?

Math. I’m pretty good at it, and I find it kind of easy.

If you could have any type of superpower what would it be and why?

Super strength. You can do everything, and it would be cool.

What’s your favorite movie?

“The Hangover.” It was pretty funny.

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

Europe. I’ve never been anywhere else, but it seems like it would be kind of interesting.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I don’t know for sure, but I want to do something in business.

What was your favorite cartoon growing up?

“Spongebob.” It was funny and entertaining.

Were you born in Florida?

I was born in Bradenton. I’ve lived here my whole life.
