All bark, no bite
9:25 a.m. — 900 block of South Allendale Avenue. Animal Nuisance. A woman walking her dog called police after a neighbor’s dog ran down the street and barked at her. The neighbor told officers she thought her dog was enclosed in her fenced backyard, and that it must have found a way out. The officer saw the dog and wrote in his report that it did not seem dangerous or intimidating.

Born to be wild
3:50 p.m. — Golden Gate Point and John Ringling Causeway. Battery. A man dining at a restaurant got into an argument with 16 members of a biker gang. The man was punched and kicked several times, but only required medical treatment at the scene. The bikers were stopped at the above address, while an officer brought the victim to them for identification. The man told police they were the guys who punched and kicked him. A bartender said the victim seemed to provoke the bikers.

Jan. 12
Like a good neighbor
7:42 a.m. — 2800 block of Louise Street. Criminal Mischief. A homeowner walked out to his car to see that all four tires had been slashed. The man said his dog started barking several hours earlier, but he didn’t look outside. He believes the suspect is a neighbor, with whom he has an ongoing dispute. The neighbor thinks the man’s dog is dangerous.

Keep the junk mail
1:30 p.m. — 5700 block of Britannia Drive. Petit Theft. A woman believes someone has been stealing her mail for nearly two months. She realized some of her monthly bank- and credit-card statements and even junk mail had been stolen from her mailbox. The woman thinks she knows who the culprit is. She recently called a friend’s doctor to report the friend had a prescription-drug habit and ask that no more prescriptions be issued. The woman said the same friend had stolen her credit card a few months ago and charged $2,500 to it. She believes the credit-card statements were stolen to hide the charges the suspect put on the card.

3:15 p.m. — 3700 block of South Osprey Avenue. Burglary. An office-building owner believes a former tenant, the owner of a real-estate company, broke into his building and stole two copiers worth $30,000 each. The owner is in a legal dispute with the real-estate firm, and their legal agreement calls for all of the firm’s assets to remain in the office building until the dispute is settled. But the building owner said the real-estate owner was adamant about getting the copiers back. The building owner changed all the locks, and it appears the burglar climbed onto the second-floor balcony and entered through an unlocked elevator. Police were unable to reach the suspect.

Tumble dry
6:42 — Tuttle Avenue and Ringling Boulevard. Suspicious Incident. A caller reported that a driver lost her laundry basket and clothes were flying all over the road. Several cars had to swerve to miss the unmentionables.

Jan. 13
Like mother, like daughter
4:32 a.m. — 1600 block of Redwood Street. Family Disturbance. A mother became angry with her 22-year-old daughter, because one of the daughter’s friends came to visit at 4 a.m. They began arguing, and then each wanted to call “Nana,” who lives out of state, to try to tell her their sides of the story. A tug of war ensued over the phone, which resulted in the receiver being broken in half. A deputy told the mother and daughter to avoid each other as much as possible to avoid future arguments. The daughter said she would leave, because she had to pick up her Xanax prescription anyway.
