Pirates, Mustangs advance to district semis

The Braden River and Lakewood Ranch High boys soccer teams were both victorious in the opening round of the Class 4A-District 10 tournament Jan. 26 and will advance to tonight's district semifinals.

The host Pirates shut out Dixie Hollins 4-0 in the Class 4A-District 10 quarterfinals. Seniors Matthew Wagner and Mitchell Margolis combined to score two of Braden River’s four goals. The No. 4 seed Pirates will now travel to top-seeded Palmetto for tonight’s district semifinal.

Meanwhile, after trailing 1-0, the host Mustangs scored two goals late in the second half to edge past Bayshore 2-1. Marco Padilla and Alex Martin each scored for Lakewood. The No. 2 seed Mustangs will now host St. Pete Lakewood in tonight’s district semifinal.
