The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.
Eleven-year-old Christian Lowe hit a two-run home run, propelling Braden River Little League to a 9-2 victory over North River American in the 9-10 age division of the District 26 Little League Tournament July 1. The two-time All-Star went 2-for-5 at the plate in two games this week with an intentional walk. Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.
What was your reaction when you saw the ball go over the fence?
I’ve already hit six home runs, so this time, I just kind of jogged around the bases. The first time, I didn’t know what to do.
What’s it like being a two-time All-Star?
It gives me confidence that I’m going to make it every year.
Would you rather be out on the mound pitching or at the plate batting?
At the plate. When you’re pitching you can stop runs, but when you’re hitting you can put the other team down by more runs. I also like seeing how far I can hit the ball.
Do you play any other sports?
I play football for the (East Manatee) Bulldogs.
What’s your favorite movie?
“The Longest Yard.” I like to watch movies about sports, but I like the old one better.
What’s your favorite food?
Pizza with ranch dressing.
If you could have any superhero power what would it be?
Superhero strength. I want to be strong, so I could put one over the (Tampa Bay) Rays fence.
Who is your favorite baseball player?
Carl Crawford. He’s fast.
What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Oreo.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I don’t know yet, but I know I don’t want to be a lawyer.
