Everett McCarver was a law student at the University of Missouri in the late 1960s when he met Switzerland native Roland Moser. The pair dreamed of opening a jewelry store, and, eventually, they moved to Sarasota and opened McCarver & Moser Jewelers on St. Armands Circle in 1980.

Three decades later, the store remains a fixture on the Circle. Although McCarver died in May 2008, Moser runs the store as its sole owner with the help of Jet, their 16-year-old cocker spaniel, who continues to greet customers, and eight employees, some of whom have worked at the store for more than 20 years.

McCarver & Moser carries the work of fine-jewelry designers such as Leo Pizzo, Chopard Geneve, Charriol Geneve and Bez Ambar. The store also features watch-and-jewelry repair, jewelry design and upgrades.

The staff at McCarver & Moser have many repeat customers.

“We’re now on our second and third generation of customers,” Moser said.

And jewelry isn’t the only thing that makes the store a gem: McCarver & Moser is also known for its festive holiday decorations.
