The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
CASCADES
Reported July 12
12:39 p.m. — 6500 block of 41st Court East. Fraud/uttering a forged instrument. Unknown person(s) gained access to the victim’s account information and cashed fraudulent checks in his name. It is believed the information was stolen from his mailbox because a payment sent on July 1 never was received. The victim and his wife, whose name was used on the check, made a report with their bank and closed their account.
MOTE RANCH
July 13
9:10 a.m. — 5800 Old Farm Road. Assault. The victim was riding his bicycle along the road, and the suspect and his wife were walking the other way along the same side of the road. As they approached each other, the victim stated he couldn’t go around them due to a passing truck. As he passed closely by, the male swung his right arm out as if he was going to knock him off his bike. The victim stated he was afraid he was going to be hit and swerved, which caused him to fall off his bicycle. The victim had minor scrapes on his hands and lower leg. When questioned about the incident, both stated they did see each other and neither of the men made any effort to move out of the way.
SARASOTA
July 12
3:05 p.m. — 8320 Lockwood Ridge Road (Walmart). Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The victim was trying to pass the vehicle in the parking lot, as a male in a white Oldsmobile was sitting in the roadway. The victim honked her horn on two separate occasions, which made the male angry. He then stuck his middle finger up at her. The victim parked her vehicle and as soon as she stepped out of the vehicle the male struck her with his vehicle. The incident was captured on video surveillance. The victim refused EMS and stated she would visit her doctor. The suspect was not located in the area or at his home.

1:03 p.m. — 4460 Tallevast Road (Shell). Grand theft auto. The suspect reportedly rented a U-Haul truck and signed a written contract with the company to return it by May 20. The suspect has not turned the truck into any U-Haul facility nationwide.
2:08 p.m. — 7081 Prospect Road (Hagan’s Pet Resort). Grand theft. The victim had employed the suspect for the past 16 months as a vet tech for the clinic. During that time, the suspect was responsible for maintaining and ordering the medication for the animals. The suspect’s performance became poor, and he seemed to be under the influence of drugs while at work. The suspect was terminated for performance and for refusing to comply with the drug testing policy. After his termination, the victim noticed an unusually large amount of drugs had been ordered over the past several months and the medications are not at the clinic. The victim stated he believes the suspect stole the medication.
July 13
12:15 a.m. — 7400 block of 39th Court East. Criminal mischief. The victim reported unknown person(s) damaged her mailbox. The pole wasn’t damaged, but the mailbox itself was dented as though someone beat it with a baseball bat. The victim stated that a neighbor, four houses down, had his mailbox vandalized as well. The estimated cost of the damage is $35.
