July 13
Intoxication incident
9:06 p.m. — 5600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Public Drunkenness. A girl reported that two drunk men had approached her and that one of the men offered to pay her “for some action.” The girl’s father reported the incident to police, who found the subjects passed out on the beach and lying facedown on lounge chairs. It took police several minutes to wake the subjects, who had no recollection of the incident.
Police called the owner of the condominium in which the men were staying. The owner stated that only her daughter had a right to stay in her unit. She apologized for the incident and promised to reprimand her daughter for allowing the men to stay there.

July 14
Seat warmer
11:24 a.m. – 600 block of Putting Green Lane. Larceny. A man reported that someone stole a wheelchair from his garage. The homeowner told police he leaves his garage door open because of the heat.

Grab bags
2:18 p.m. — 5300 block of GMD. Larceny. A woman reported that someone stole a blue beach bag from a chair near her hotel after she accidentally left it there. The bag contained a camera, reading glasses and her room key. Another woman earlier in the day reported her black beach bag was also missing, and it was found in some bushes minus her room key and some cash.

July 15
Mysterious message
7:24 a.m. — 4800 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A man told police that he believed someone entered his condominium, while he was sleeping in his recliner with the television on, and left a scrolling message on his laptop that read, “Ah, love the beach, you should turn off your TV. It wastes so much electricity.” An open screen door and smudges on a sliding-glass door were also noted.

3:35 p.m. — 500 block of Chipping Lane. Public Service. A man reported that his son left two days prior after an argument. The son is not considered missing, though, because he made contact with his father via a text message.

July 16
Trashcans taken
11:11 a.m. — 500 block of Putter Lane. Larceny. A man reported that someone stole two garbage cans from his neighbor’s house.

July 17
Sound splashers
2:47 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar Street. Code Enforcement. An anonymous caller reported a noise complaint. Police could hear people from several houses away in a backyard pool. The woman, who was renting the house for the weekend, told police the noise would stop.

July 18
Out on a limb
1:43 p.m. — 5100 block of GMD. Property Damage. A man reported that two large tree limbs fell from a pine tree and shattered his rental car’s windshield. The tree caused $1,000 worth of damage.

July 19
Backup plan
6:53 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Parkway. Reckless Driving. While driving to work in his personal vehicle, a police officer was tailgated by a motorcyclist who later passed him and another car at an estimated 80 miles per hour on Gulf of Mexico Drive. The officer followed the driver into the Avenue of the Flowers parking lot and asked him several times for his driver’s license. The man refused, saying he didn’t have to provide it because the officer was off duty. The officer returned to the scene in full uniform to arrest the man and to impound his motorcycle. The man resisted arrest several times before backup could arrive and arrest him for multiple driving suspensions, careless driving and resisting arrest.

Puddle jumpers
8:10 a.m. — 600 block of Cedar Court. Property Damage. A man reported that someone had damaged one of the condominium’s tennis courts during the night after it had rained. A puddle of rainwater was sitting on the north end of the court, and someone had run around in the water, causing $500 worth of damage. Muddy footprints from two sets of feet led police from the puddle to the front door of one of the units. The woman inside told police her daughter and a friend had gone onto the court after the rainstorm and splashed around in the puddle. The woman offered to pay for the damages.
