Now in its fourth year of providing college scholarships, the Sarasota Lions Club this year is giving up to $12,000 to three students from Sarasota high schools.

The scholarships are for $1,000 each year up to four years, depending on the student maintaining enrollment and grades.

The scholarships are based on need, leadership and community involvement.

The 2010 award winners are:

Shelby Hill, of Booker High School. She plans to attend the University of South Florida and study to become a mid-wife or special-education teacher for kindergarten.

Rebecca Stevens, of Riverview High School. She is also planning to study education at the University of South Florida.

Hannah Bradford, of Sarasota High School, will attend Warner University and wants to become an elementary-school teacher.
