The Florida Department of Education has appointed Manatee County School Board member Jane Pfeilsticker to a post on the State Instructional Materials Committee, called SIMC.

The group is responsible for reviewing, evaluating and recommending text books and other instructional materials for use in the state’s public schools.

Pfeilsticker specifically will serve on the “Science, 9-12 B Committee,” reviewing materials for chemistry, physics and physical sciences classes.

“I am honored to be selected for this committee,” Pfeilsticker said. “My goal is to ensure that the state has the highest quality text books at the lowest cost. I am selecting science text books and will closely monitor their alignment with the next generation of Sunshine State Standards.”

Pfeilsticker has a bachelor’s degree in medical technology and microbiology from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s degree in microbiology and molecular biology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
