Lovely leftovers: The only thing better than eating Chutney’s (1944 Hillview St., 954-4444) for dinner is getting to eat it two days in a row. After recently consuming only half a meal of spicy Indian food recently, we were surprised at the thoughtfulness of owner Ash Shukla, who included an extra helping of basmati rice in each to-go box.
Sensational spud: Have you tried a spud at the new Jason’s Deli (5231 University Parkway, 351-5999)? This chain offers a fresh salad bar, hearty sandwiches and more — but the hardest thing to resist on the menu is the Plain Jane spud ($6.19). It’s bigger than any average potato and is swimming in ice-cream scoops of butter, sour cream and handfuls of cheese. It’s a recommended indulgence — especially on a cold day. For a tasty addition, Jason’s Deli offers free soft-serve ice cream.
Deli deals: Between the hours of 3 and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Deli Lane (2157 Siesta Drive, 366-5554) is offering 50% off your check. Restrictions apply, of course, but who doesn’t love a good deal?
dish of the week… goes to Libby’s Café + Bar’s (1917 S. Osprey Ave., 487-7300) Unfashionable French onion soup ($9) for looking as good as it tastes. The fresh-baked sourdough bread bowl with piping hot onion soup and melted Bellweather Farms Gruyère is served in the All Clad pot it was cooked in, which is über cool — and practical — because it keeps the dish nice and hot. “It’s a meal in itself,” says waiter Graham Parsons.
