False alarm
4:06 a.m. — 500 block of Broadway. Noise Disturbance. A man called to report a car alarm going off. Two men apologized for unintentionally setting the car alarm off. Nothing suspicious was noted.

Visitor information
9:07 a.m. — 100 block of Broadway. Code Enforcement. A man called to report a woman walking her dogs on the beach. Police told the woman and her boyfriend an ordinance prevents dogs from being on the beach. The visitors apologized and said it wouldn’t happen again.

May 1
Quick reflexes
9:15 a.m. — 2900 block of GMD. Injury. A bicyclist told police when his friend slowed down in front of him, he swerved to avoid a collision and fell. The man was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Party’s over
2:11 a.m. — 5200 block of GMD. Suspicious Vehicle. Police watched five vehicles pull into a condominium parking lot and found 15 people on the beach. The subjects were not being loud and had no alcohol or illegal drugs on them. They were warned they couldn’t be on the beach that late and were trespassing. The group agreed to leave.

Dent king
10:34 a.m. — 3700 block of GMD. Civil Disturbance. A woman called police to report that a man who has the parking spot next to hers continually hits her passenger-side door with his driver-side door when he exits his car and has caused $500 damage worth of dents and dings to her car. Police contacted the man and told him that his car was also parked halfway in her space. He agreed to pay for half or all of the damages once he receives a written estimate for the damages. Police will try and facilitate an agreement.

Free ride
11:47 a.m. — 500 block of Bay Isles Road. Suspicious Person. Someone called to report that a man, who was believed to be ill, was lying in front of a bank building. Police discovered the man was homeless, and he accepted a ride to St. Armands Circle.

Boaters rescued
8:57 p.m. — 800 block of Jungle Queen Way. Boat. Police received several reports of a boat in distress in Sarasota Bay. Upon arrival, police received the S.O.S. signal and saw red flares being launched from the boat, which had run aground. Longboat Key Fire Rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to bring in the boaters.

Serious injuries
10:28 p.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police assisted the Holmes Beach Police Department with traffic control, while a motorcycle driver with critical injuries was picked up by a helicopter for transport to the hospital.

Repairs needed
9:02 a.m. — 500 block of Forest Way. Rescue. Police informed a condominium maintenance supervisor that the front door of a residence needed to be repaired, because firefighter/paramedics knocked it down to get to a resident who called 911 for a potential cardiac arrest. The supervisor agreed to fix the
door.

Surf ’n’ turf
4:35 a.m. — 100 block of North Shore Road. Trespassing. A police officer called for backup, after one of four surfers became argumentative and tried to tell the officer he had not trespassed on the closed North Shore Road beach access. The surfers were told they could surf at any other beach access.

May 4
Lovers’ quarrel
1:44 a.m. — Off the Key. Assist Other Agency. Police found a woman who had walked from Bradenton Beach to Longboat Key because she was upset with her boyfriend and wanted to walk home. She was given a ride to her south Key home.

Translation: a refund
9:44 a.m. — 4000 block of GMD. Disturbance. A man who doesn’t speak English told police through a translator he was upset with a gas-station manager who wouldn’t refund him for a car wash he didn’t want. The manager told police he wasn’t responsible for transactions carried out by credit cards but agreed to refund the car wash anyway.

Writing’s on the wall
10:19 a.m. — 2900 block of GMD. Vandalism. A woman reported that she believes her brother spray-painted several statements on the front of a home that is set for demolition. The brother had been living in the home previously.

Stolen beauty
2:01 p.m. — Intersection of Neptune Avenue and GMD. Larceny. A landscape company said someone stole two plants valued at $20 each that were intended to be planted in the Gulf of Mexico Drive right of way as part of a stimulus grant beautification project.
