The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

Braden River High freshman Madison Daunt set a new personal record of 2:40:05, finishing second in the 15-19 age division of the Florida International Triathlon May 15 on Siesta Key. The three-sport athlete is now ranked 25th in the nation for her age group.

Here is an inside look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

How did you get into triathlons?
I started doing them two years ago after my mother signed me up for a kids’ race. I wasn’t too thrilled about it, but I ended up liking it. I bought an entry-level bike, and I just fell in love with the sport.

What is your fondest triathlon moment?
Finishing (second) at the St. Anthony’s Triathlon. It was my first Olympic distance triathlon, and it felt really great. The finish line was just extreme with all of the spectators. It made you feel like a professional.

What do you like to do in your spare time when you aren’t playing sports?
I like being with my family and friends and going to youth group. I like photography, going to the beach and traveling and seeing new places.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Europe. It seems really beautiful, especially places like Greece and the Mediterranean.

What’s your favorite movie?
“The Parent Trap” with Lindsay Lohan. I’ve always loved that movie. It never gets old.

Do you have any siblings?
Yes. I have two sisters — Molly, 12, and Abby, 9.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
Either a doctor in the medical field or a nurse — right now I’m leaning toward an oncology pediatrician. The human body really fascinates with me with everything that it does.

Do you have any pets?
Yes. I have a black lab named Alley.

What’s your favorite food?
Sushi. I could eat that all day.

Do you have a favorite TV show?
“Modern Family” and “The Real Housewives of New York City.”
