+ Solar oven turns judges onto taste
On May 1, sixth-graders from St. Martha’s Catholic School competed in the Energy Whiz Olympics, in Cocoa Beach. Naomi Rafi, Victoria Bertolino and Camille Lurz took third place in the competition for taste with their shrimp scampi and whole-wheat couscous, mini hotdogs wrapped in bacon, strawberries dipped in chocolate and chocolate lattes.

“All of the kids had the opportunity to walk around the competition and look at the different groups and ovens,” said Geri Bertolino, Victoria’s mother. “These kids really thought about what they were doing and how they were using natural resources to cook food. It opened their eyes to the science of what’s behind it and all that can be powered by the sun.”
