The East County Observer and Bogey’s Restaurant and Sports Pub have teamed up to showcase the East County’s top athletes. Each recipient’s article will be featured on the restaurant’s wall.

The Out-of-Door Academy’s sophomore backup quarterback Evan Wilson threw for more than 260 yards and four touchdowns, propelling the Thunder to a 56-21 victory over Moore Haven Oct. 29 and clinching a berth in the playoffs.. Here is a look at this week’s Athlete of the Week.

What’s been the biggest adjustment you’ve had to making from being a backup quarterback to a starter the past few weeks?
Probably the atmosphere. When I go to practice, it’s just me. I don’t have to wait for Brian (Ragone) to finish and then work with the second team offense. It’s a weird feeling.

What’s the toughest part about being a quarterback?
It’s mentally more difficult than other positions. It’s so grueling mentally. You have to know everything you’re doing all the time for every single play.

How did you get into football?
My family is all Gator fans. From the time I was 3 years old, I’ve been a huge football fan. It was always something I wanted to do, and it’s just grown throughout my life.

Is there a particular quarterback after which you model yourself?
Danny Wuerffel. That’s where my number comes from. While I was growing up, my parents had highlight films of that year, and I would (always) watch those.

What’s your favorite subject?
Math. It just makes sense.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Alaska. I like cold weather, and I like to fish.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The ability to fly. Just having a different perspective on everything would be really cool.
