John McCarthy presented Harriet Stieff, Owen Burns’ daughter, with a paperweight Nov. 7, during the Historical Society of Sarasota County’s 18th annual tour of Sarasota Bay. The paperweight was intended as a gift for Stieff’s sister, Lillian Burns, in 1997 for her many years of service to the Historical Society of Sarasota Board, but Burns never made it to the meeting.

“I found this Thursday night, and thought, ‘Well, Harriet is going to be on the cruise, so I’ll give it to her then,’” said McCarthy.
