Kristin Edelman, better known as “Demolition Dee Dee,” is a member of the Sarasota Roller Girls, a roller derby team here in Sarasota. Originally from Vermont, Demolition Dee Dee fell in love with the sport of roller derby more than two years ago and has been skating and “jamming” ever since.

What would you like to improve?
I am trying to improve on getting through the pack as a jammer.

How often do you practice?
We practice here (New College outdoor basketball court) two times a week and then once a week we practice at Lakewood Ranch. So we have about three practices a week and then we try to do some off skates on our own as far as running, different cardio activities and strength training — just to keep in shape.

What is some of the best advice you have been given?

To get comfortable in your skates. Try to just pretend they are just regular shoes and you’re walking around the house in them.

What is your favorite thing about roller derby?

My favorite thing is the camaraderie. I love all these girls. We come from different walks of life, but once we get out on the track we are just one big happy family.
